Preserving Nature to Earn protocol


Deforestation is a major issue to CO2 emissions, yet it continues to occur in many regions. However, the productivity of deforestation is low, with forest owners in the Araucanía region of Chile earning an average monthly income of just $400 per hectare. Most forest owners have no other production methods besides deforestation or agriculture. With computer vision-enabled carbon farming, forest owners can increase productivity by over 20 times and reduce CO2 emissions.

What it does

With our computer vision MRV module + Carbon Credit Token economics, We provide a tool to convert natural assets to tradable digital assets that measure the CO2 reduction potential of landowners' land and generate regular income according to the measured values. The digital assets ( which work as Voluntary Carbon Credit) also can be used for carbon offset at enterprise companies.

How we built it

SoTA Computer Vision model to identify & segment forest areas in a satellite image. Solidity or Rust (In the github written in Solidity this time) The use of Polygon or Solana Blockchain is aimed at achieving mass adoption and reducing CO2 emissions while being environmentally conscious. ERC20 tokens are used to code temporary tokens. Due to IP protection, actual development has been done in a separate private repo.

Challenges we ran into

"The voluntary carbon market is an immature market that is comparable to Web3, with multiple international certification bodies and recent surging demand leading to higher certification prices and scandals. However, it is expected to become a huge market worth over 3 trillion USD around 2030. Lobbying for municipalities and regulations is necessary as it is affected by political leadership that decides standards and laws. Another challenge is the regional differences in issues faced by forest owners. Additionally, converting carbon credits from tokens such as VERRA and Goldstandard is expected to incur high costs."

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One B-Company in Chile, four general trading companies in Japan, and one global consulting firm have requested a PoC. The team has experts in business, computer vision, Web3, and carbon credit certification agency, Goldstandard.

What's next for Carbontribe

Starting from the PoC proposal, we will input data into the ML Ops of computer vision to verify feasibility. We will generate revenue from companies through the PoC project. After raising funds, we will start development aimed at verifying token economics and TGE.
